Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) course conducted by the Neuro Criticalcare Society (NCS) is designed to help healthcare professionals improve patient care and outcomes during the critical first hours of a patient’s neurological emergency. Now in its third version, ENLS demonstrates a collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach and provides a consistent set of protocols, practical checklists, decision points, and suggested communication to use during patient management.
This instructor-led live ENLS course is a great addition to the SSCCN's continuing-education offerings. The first of such courses organised by SSCCN was conducted on the 17th of July 2018 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Following the success of the course, SSCCN plans to organise such courses every year with the support and guidance of the NCS.
The course is conducted by certified ENLS trainers. All attendees are provided access to the online course and materials. Once the live course is complete, students access the Self-Directed ENLS course online to complete their certification.
Curriculum: ENLS consists of 14 protocols. Each protocol was designed and written by neuro intensivists and emergency medicine physicians. These protocols are designed to provide the same advice an expert in neurocritical care would provide if you called the physician for a consult and asked, “What should I do in the first hour to best help this patient and hand them off to you?” For more details see the box on the right..
Certification: To gain ENLS certification, the online portion of the course must be completed. This involves passing the 14 exams with a score of 70% or higher. ENLS certification is valid for two years, during which an individual retains access to their ENLS account and course materials
